The Los Angeles Chargers’ season continued to spiral downward with another demoralizing loss, falling 22-6 to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The Chiefs, now 5-0 and one of the NFL’s last three unbeaten teams, dominated despite playing without star wide receivers Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton.
Kenneth Walker III led the way with 128 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Patrick Mahomes threw for 272 yards, anchoring a Kansas City offense that overcame early struggles and a missed field goal by Harrison Butker. The Chargers, meanwhile, managed just 259 total yards of offense, with quarterback Justin Herbert throwing an interception and the team’s defense failing to stop Walker’s explosive runs.
Injuries to key players—including offensive linemen Joe Alt and Kayode Awosika, along with receiver Tre’ Harris—further crippled Los Angeles’ already shaky attack, which also lost wide receiver Ladd McConkey to a concussion in the second quarter. The Chargers’ inability to sustain drives or capitalize on opportunities left them winless at 0-6, extending their losing streak to six games while the Chiefs joined San Francisco and Minnesota as the league’s only unbeaten teams.
This marked the first meeting between the AFC West rivals since December, when Mahomes suffered a season-ending knee injury in a game that eliminated Kansas City from playoff contention last year. The Chargers had won both matchups against the Chiefs in 2022, but this season’s result was a stark contrast, underscoring the depth of their current struggles.
