The Boston Celtics dominated the 2026–27 NBA general manager survey, appearing frequently across categories from team projections to coaching and player accolades. In the Eastern Conference standings predictions, the Celtics secured a notable fourth-place finish with 27% of the vote, marking a significant jump from their eighth-place ranking last year.
Only 7% of GMs predicted Boston to claim the top spot, tying with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Head coach Joe Mazzulla stood out as a top-tier strategist, tying for first in the 'best manager/motivator' category alongside Steve Kerr and Erik Spoelstra, while also earning votes for his offensive and defensive schemes—despite receiving no recognition as the best coach overall.
The survey also highlighted Celtics assistant Sam Cassell, who tied for fifth in the 'best assistant coach' vote, and guard Mike Conley, who overwhelmingly won the 'best future head coach' category with 50% of the vote, underscoring his leadership role among Boston’s young core.
