Cable robs Padres of potential home run in bizarre playoff loss to Brewers

Pat Murphy acknowledged the memorable support of legendary broadcaster Bob Uecker after his squad narrowly held on for a 3-2 triumph in the opening matchup of their postseason series on Saturday. Holding a narrow lead with a single out remaining in the final frame, the victors benefited from extreme fortune when a crucial ninth-inning smash off the bat of Ty France collided with an overhead stadium cable.

Instead of sailing out for a potential game-changing home run, the ball remained in play and was safely hauled in by Jackson Chourio. Relief pitcher Trevor Megill then managed to retire Jackson Merrill on a subsequent fly ball to secure the narrow victory.
