The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Week 5 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys will be without star safety Antoine Winfield Jr., who suffered a rib fracture in Sunday’s 17-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Winfield, who had recorded 24 tackles in the team’s first four games, will miss two to four weeks, further straining an already depleted roster.
The injury was sustained late in the Packers game, and head coach Todd Bowles confirmed the severity of the fracture, which will keep Winfield out of Thursday night’s game and potentially beyond. The Buccaneers’ lineup will also be impacted by Baker Mayfield’s lingering right thumb injury, which remains unresolved, and the non-participation of cornerback Benjamin Morrison and linebacker SirVocea Dennis.
Rookie linebacker Josiah Trotter will play limited snaps due to a knee issue, while first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. is expected to start despite groin and shoulder concerns.
On the Cowboys’ side, cornerback Cobie Durant, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and tackle Drew Shelton are all sidelined, with guard Tyler Smith returning to limited practice after missing the first four games with a thumb injury. Updated injury reports are expected Tuesday ahead of the Thursday Night Football clash.
