Milwaukee’s 28‑year‑old catcher William Contreras earned World Series MVP honors after the Brewers clinched their first championship by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4‑1 in Game 5. Contreras went 1‑for‑4 with an RBI double in the decisive game and finished the series hitting .381 with four RBIs, while also throwing out three base‑stealers in the first three contests – a feat not seen from a catcher since Darren Daulton in 1993.
His postseason résumé included a .373/.448/.588 slash line, three homers and nine RBIs, and he guided a staff that limited Tampa Bay to 12 runs over five games. Contreras entered Game 4 on a .419 average and 1.141 OPS, added a key RBI single in Game 3, and won four ball‑strike challenges under the new automated system.
The award makes him the first catcher to win World Series MVP since Salvador Pérez in 2015 and the third Venezuelan to claim the honor.
