The Los Angeles Rams have turned to Indianapolis Colts kicker Blake Grupe after releasing Harrison Mevis, who left the team following a controversial blocked field goal attempt. Grupe, who was cut by the New Orleans Saints in late November after a slow start, joined the Colts in December and finished the season with a perfect record—11-of-11 on field goals and 10-of-10 on extra points.
His precision under pressure includes a career-long 60-yard field goal, a stat that could prove valuable for the Rams, who are looking for consistency at kicker. Head coach Sean McVay has expressed confidence in Grupe’s temperament, describing him as quietly confident and humble, while also emphasizing the need to put him in positions where he can succeed, particularly on shorter kicks.
The Rams face the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday, and Grupe’s performance will be closely watched as they aim to stabilize their kicking game after a shaky start to the season.
Beyond the kicking position, the Rams have also activated offensive tackle Keagen Trost from injured reserve and practice squad cornerback Cam Lampkin ahead of the matchup. Trost, a third-round pick in the 2026 draft, has been sidelined since before the season opener but could provide depth at left tackle.
Meanwhile, McVay has suggested that the blocked field goal against the Colts would have likely missed even without the interference, adding another layer of context to the team’s decision to move on from Mevis.
