BCCI Annual General Meeting leaves Ajit Agarkar's future open as office-bearers get final say on selection committee

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has empowered its key administrators to determine whether Ajit Agarkar stays on as the leader of the men's senior selection panel. During the organization's 95th Annual General Meeting held in Mumbai on a Friday, representatives reviewed the status of the committee, whose chief took charge in July 2023 and faces the expiration of his contract in the coming month.

Board vice-president Rajeev Shukla affirmed following the session that designated officials now hold the authority to resolve the matter, while also noting that Arun Singh Dhumal and Majumdar will keep their roles on the Indian Premier League governing council.

Should administrators decline to grant an extension, the cricket body must publish job notices and stage interviews before naming a successor, potentially leaving an interim gap. Senior figures attending the meeting included board president Mithun Manhas, vice-president Devajit Saikia, Cricket Association of Bengal head Sourav Ganguly, and Jharkhand State Cricket Association secretary Saurabh Tiwary, though an ultimate verdict on the chief selector position remains pending.
