New South Wales batter Oliver Davies rewrote the record books during a recent Sheffield Shield fixture by blasting the fastest double century in the history of the tournament. Opening the innings, he reached the milestone in just 186 deliveries before finishing on 253 runs from 225 balls, hitting 38 fours and four sixes in the process.
His remarkable performance eclipsed his entire run tally from the previous season, where he had managed only 123 runs across nine innings with a solitary fifty.
During his time at the crease, Davies shared a massive 250-run partnership with Jack Edwards, who contributed 109 runs to help lift their side to 441 for 6 by the close of the second day. Earlier in the fixture, New South Wales had restricted Tasmania to a total of 245, anchored by a five-wicket haul from twenty-one-year-old leg-spinner Jake Scott.
The match also saw contributions from Caleb Jewell, who had been the last player to score a double century in the competition back in February 2024.
