Austin Wells breaks up Drew Rasmussen no-hitter but baserunning blunder costs Yankees

Drew Rasmussen lost his no-hit bid in the bottom of the eighth inning during ALDS Game 1 when New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells hit a double down the right field line with two outs. Attempting to stretch the hit into a triple against the Tampa Bay Rays, Wells ignored a stop sign from third base coach Luis Rojas and was easily thrown out at third by an outfield relay from Victor Mesa Jr.

through shortstop Taylor Walls to third baseman Junior Caminero, preserving a 1-0 lead for the Rays heading into the ninth inning. The play negated a scoring chance that would have preceded Giancarlo Stanton pinch-hitting for Ryan McMahon.
