India’s Pranav Soorma delivered a standout performance at the Asian Para Games, securing gold in the men’s discus throw with a record-breaking throw of 11.66 meters—his first major competition in the event. The 32-year-old athlete compared his achievement to cricket star Virat Kohli’s rare bowling contributions, emphasizing the rarity and impact of his victory.
Soorma, who previously won gold in the club throw at the 2023 Asian Para Games in China, also highlighted the technical differences between the two events, noting the distinct handling of equipment and the precision required in discus throw. His teammate Ram Ratan Singh followed up with silver, marking a 1-2 finish for India in the combined F51/52/53 event.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Alireza Hemami claimed bronze under the Raza Point System, which adjusts rankings based on athletes’ classifications to ensure fair competition across different impairment levels.
