Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta addressed the ongoing Manchester City financial scandal during a press conference, stating he has 'a clear conscience' regarding his time at the club despite its serious breaches of financial regulations. An independent commission ruled that City inflated their revenue by £830 million between 2009/10 and 2017/18, including £264.3 million in artificially boosted sponsorship income during the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons—two campaigns in which Arteta served as assistant manager under Pep Guardiola.
The club has since filed an appeal, denying any wrongdoing, while Arteta declined to elaborate further until the legal process concludes. He also emphasized his pride in Arsenal’s recent Premier League title win, calling it a 'unique and genuine feeling,' and reaffirmed his belief that the Premier League remains the 'best in the world' despite the controversy.
Arteta’s tenure at City spanned three-and-a-half seasons, during which the club secured back-to-back league titles, an FA Cup, and two League Cups before his move to Arsenal in 2019.
