Veteran forward DeWanna Bonner stepped into a leadership role on Wednesday night when the Atlanta Dream completed a first-round playoff sweep against the Washington Mystics with a 93-75 victory. As the final buzzer sounded, teammates Angel Reese and Allisha Gray began waving goodbye to their opponents on the floor, prompting Bonner to immediately pull their hands down and gather the squad.
The win advances the fourth-seeded Dream to the semifinals against the New York Liberty after previously being eliminated in the opening round for three consecutive years.
During the decisive road matchup, Allisha Gray led the offensive effort with 22 points and four steals, while Angel Reese contributed 15 points and seven boards. DeWanna Bonner pitched in seven points off the bench in 14 minutes of action following her August acquisition from the Mercury.
The upcoming best-of-five semifinal series begins on Sunday, October 4, as the franchise pursues its first WNBA title since last reaching the Finals in 2013.
