The Anaheim Ducks have locked up young blueliner Tristan Luneau on a six-year, $43.2 million contract extension despite the defenseman having only 14 career NHL appearances under his belt. General manager Pat Verbeek moved quickly to secure the 22-year-old following a turbulent offseason of restricted free agency negotiations that saw high-priced deals handed out to several other young roster members including Leo Carlsson, Pavel Mintyukov, Cutter Gauthier, and Jackson LaCombe.
Luneau is projected to handle significant minutes on the blue line for Anaheim this season after the departures of four veteran defensemen during the summer. The franchise enters the new campaign following a second-round postseason appearance last spring under coach Joel Quenneville, opening their schedule with a road game against Vegas before returning home to face Florida.
