After Cubs drop both games of twin bill, they turn attention to pitching plans

Following a pair of defeats in a Friday doubleheader against the Red Sox, the Cubs are shifting their postseason strategy as an unexpected Saturday off-field day approaches. Manager Craig Counsell and his squad are evaluating their pitching options for the upcoming Wild Card Series while currently sitting two games back of the Padres for the top spot in the wild card standings.

Clay Holmes and David Peterson pitched in the twin bill in Boston, putting them in position to return by Game 2 on regular rest, while Matthew Boyd appears lined up for Game 1. Kevin Gausman is day to day recovering from a left shoulder injury sustained on a defensive play, and the team must also determine whether to use Shota Imanaga in Sunday's finale or preserve him for the playoffs.
