Abbas & Allison shine as wickets tumble at New Road

Twenty wickets fell during an eventful opening day at New Road in Division Two of the Rothesay County Championship, leaving Worcestershire holding a 131-run lead with all ten wickets intact. Worcestershire were dismissed for 214 runs after Mohammed Abbas claimed five wickets for 63 runs, with Tom Taylor contributing an unbeaten 39 and Jake Libby adding 33.

In response, Derbyshire collapsed to 88 all out in a single session as Ben Allison tore through the batting order with figures of five for 22, while Wayne Madsen provided the sole resistance with 40 runs. Worcestershire safely negotiated a brief three-over spell before the close of play to reach 5-0.
