According to recent analysis by Elliotte Friedman, the Carolina Hurricanes might finally land goaltender Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets if defenseman Alexander Nikishin agrees to a contract in Winnipeg. However, Nikishin has reportedly rejected a potential move to the Jets and is instead seeking a five-year contract with a nine million dollar annual average value, severely limiting potential landing spots for the blueliner.
With other suitors like the Nashville Predators and New York Rangers falling out of contention, the St. Louis Blues have emerged as the primary contender to acquire Nikishin.
General manager Alexander Steen and the Blues remain strongly interested in the twenty-four-year-old Russian, whose future could ultimately dictate whether Carolina's pursuit of Hellebuyck succeeds.
