The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Denver Broncos 24-14 on Sunday to improve their record to 4-0 on the season. With the victory, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan notched his 95th win in his role, which allowed him to pass Bill Walsh for the most games as the franchise’s head coach.
The win also keeps the San Francisco 49ers as one of three undefeated teams remaining after the Week 4 action.
For the first half, points were scarce as the score remained 3-3 until 4:15 was left in the third quarter. All three of the San Francisco 49ers trips to the end zone occurred during the second half.
The deadlock broke following a fumble by Denver Broncos punt returner Marvin Mims, which happened a few plays before Deebo Samuel's touchdown. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy then connected with wide receiver Deebo Samuel for the first touchdown pass of the contest.
Purdy finished the afternoon completing 19-of-30 passes for 218 yards and threw two touchdown passes in total.
The offense continued to produce points in the final frame when San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey capped a 74-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. McCaffrey finished the day with 70 scrimmage yards.
Later in the fourth quarter, just before the two-minute warning, Brock Purdy threw his second touchdown pass of the day, connecting with tight end George Kittle on a 56-yard touchdown pass. For Denver, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle scored his first touchdown for the team during the game.
Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix finished the game 25-of-42 for 214 yards, and kicker Wil Lutz missed a 58-yard field goal with 1:18 left to play. The fumble by Marvin Mims was the only turnover for either team in the game.
The contest featured multiple injuries on both sides. San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans had five catches for 76 yards while dealing with a rib injury, whereas teammate and fullback Kyle Juszczyk left the game with a knee injury.
The Denver Broncos saw cornerbacks Pat Surtain II and Riley Moss both forced out of the game with injuries, and wide receiver Pat Bryant was carted off the field in the third quarter.
Looking ahead to Week 5, the San Francisco 49ers will travel to Seattle next Sunday, while the Denver Broncos will face the Chargers.
