The stage is officially set for the 2026 WNBA Finals, featuring a championship clash between the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries. The best-of-seven series is scheduled to begin on Oct. 17 as both organizations pursue a league title.
The Golden State Valkyries reach the championship series in just their second season of existence after kick-starting the WNBA expansion wave. When he purchased the expansion franchise, Valkyries owner Joe Lacob proclaimed that the team would capture a title within its initial five years of play.
They will face an Atlanta Dream franchise returning to the final stage for the first time in 13 years. Atlanta, which has never won a league championship, had not made an appearance in the title round since 2013 before securing this season's berth.
Atlanta entered the postseason as the fourth seed and advanced by finishing a three-game sweep over the New York Liberty on Friday night. The Dream clinched the series with an 85-83 victory, led offensively by Angel Reese, who posted 22 points, and Rhyne Howard, who contributed 21 points.
Facing elimination with their season at stake, the New York Liberty received matching 26-point efforts from Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart before the Dream closed out the sweep. The Dream now move on to play the Valkyries beginning on Oct. 17.
