Texas Longhorns football coach Steve Sarkisian recently expressed strong doubts regarding the Southeastern Conference's shift to a nine-game conference calendar. During a media availability session, the leader of the Austin program explained that the expanded slate increases the physical demands on players and produces additional defeats that could potentially disadvantage conference members during playoff selection.
The Longhorns currently hold a five-and-two overall record alongside a two-and-two mark within conference play, having recently rebounded from consecutive defeats against Oklahoma and Florida by defeating Ole Miss. However, that victory came at a high cost, as starting offensive lineman Trevor Goosby suffered a season-ending knee injury, compounding concerns about roster attrition.
Sarkisian is not alone in his opposition, as LSU leader Lane Kiffin has also voiced vocal criticisms regarding the expanded league schedule.
