The WNBA Finals between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries have seen ticket prices surge to unprecedented levels, sparking debate about the influence of star guard Angel Reese. While Reese has been a cornerstone of the Dream’s championship run—averaging a career-high 16.4 points and 12.1 rebounds this season—former ESPN anchor Linda Cohn questioned whether the spike in demand alone justifies comparisons to Caitlin Clark’s broader cultural impact.
Clark’s effect on the league, Cohn noted, includes sustained attendance, TV ratings, and merchandise sales, not just a few high-profile games. The Dream’s Finals games at State Farm Arena, with full 17,000-seat capacity, mark a sharp contrast to earlier playoff games there, which drew around 9,700 fans due to limited ticket availability.
Reese’s dominance—including a 22-point, nine-rebound performance in the clinching Game 5—has been pivotal, but Cohn argued that ticket sales should be measured over a full season, not just the Finals. The Dream’s roster, featuring Rhyne Howard, Jordin Canada, and Allisha Gray, also plays a key role in driving attendance beyond Reese’s individual appeal.
