The New England Patriots face a stiffer defensive challenge this week as they look to extend their winning streak against the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has shifted his defense to rely more on aggressive man coverage and frequent blitzes, ranking second in the NFL in blitz rate and 10th in man-coverage usage.
This approach could backfire against Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who thrives against blitz-heavy schemes and has shown a knack for exploiting man coverage by extending plays or using his mobility to create separation. To counter Maye’s deep-ball threats, the Jets are also deploying split-safety formations, particularly Cover 6 looks, which have increased this season.
On offense, the Patriots will need to adjust without star running back Rhamondre Stevenson’s usual counterpart, Kendrick Bourne Henderson, who remains out due to injury. Stevenson is expected to handle the bulk of the rushing load, with practice-squad back J.J.
Taylor likely stepping in for additional carries if needed. Meanwhile, the Patriots’ rushing attack, which has improved to 121.6 yards per game and 4.1 yards per carry, will aim to wear down a Jets defensive line that has struggled to contain ground attacks in recent weeks.
