Lions' loss to Bills has panic level high after another poor performance by defense
Serious concerns are mounting over Detroit's defense following a lopsided defeat against Buffalo, marking consecutive weeks where the unit surrendered 30 and 41 points. While Detroit squeaked out an overtime victory in Week 1 despite Tyler Shough amassing 410 passing yards and three touchdowns after New Orleans erased a 21-0 deficit, that opener was saved by five sacks and three takeaways.
Against the Bills, however, the defense generated zero turnovers and managed just two sacks, one coming from Aidan Hutchinson.
Buffalo thoroughly dismantled the unit, highlighted by Josh Allen scrambling for 69 yards and two scores over 14 attempts alongside a 43-yard touchdown connection to Josh Palmer. Running back James Cook III added to the rout by rushing 21 times for 135 yards and a touchdown.
The alarming slump echoes the unit's shortcomings that kept Detroit out of the postseason in 2025, threatening their 2026 campaign if rapid improvements are not made.
