Lions' loss to Bills has panic level high after another poor performance by defense

Serious concerns are mounting over the Detroit Lions' defensive unit after surrendering 30 and 41 points across consecutive contests to begin the 2026 campaign. The trouble initially surfaced in New Orleans during Week 1, when Tyler Shough threw for 410 yards and three scores to overcome an early 21-0 hole, though Detroit survived in overtime thanks to five sacks and three forced takeaways.

Those flaws proved insurmountable in a Week 2 defeat against the Buffalo Bills, who executed a flawless offensive showing without committing a single giveaway.

Josh Allen dismantled Detroit both through the air and on the ground, amassing 69 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on 14 attempts alongside a 43-yard passing score to Josh Palmer. Buffalo also dominated the ground game behind James Cook III, who racked up 135 yards and a touchdown across 21 carries.

Despite Aidan Hutchinson recording one of the defense's two sacks against Allen, the lopsided performance echoes Detroit's defensive struggles from 2025 that kept them out of the postseason, threatening to derail another promising year.
