Veteran cricketer Ajinkya Rahane has added his voice to the growing opposition against the Indian Premier League's impact player system. Speaking in a recent interview, the former franchise leader argued that the regulation has outlived its usefulness and is actively harming the development of multi-skilled cricketers in the country.
Rahane highlighted that teams can easily recover from deep batting collapses due to the presence of an extra specialist batsman, which unfairly reduces opportunities for bowlers. He also pointed out that the current setup severely limits the growth of seam-bowling all-rounders like Hardik Pandya, while noting that leadership groups across the league had expressed similar reservations prior to previous meetings.
