'I felt sorry for Fred' - Horner on Ferrari team boss rumours

October 20, 2026

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner addressed recent speculation linking him to a potential move to Ferrari, sparked by an interview with *The Times* published last month. The conversation, conducted before Ferrari’s challenging home race at Monza in September, included Horner praising the Italian team as "the biggest brand in Formula 1" and a "sleeping giant." Though he emphasized respect for Ferrari’s legacy and the prestige of working there, the interview was misinterpreted as a direct endorsement of replacing team principal Fred Vasseur, whose position had faced scrutiny amid Ferrari’s inconsistent 2023 season.

Horner clarified that his comments were never intended to pressure Vasseur, calling the timing of the rumors "very unfortunate." He also admitted feeling sympathy for Vasseur, having experienced the demands of leading a high-pressure team firsthand. While Horner acknowledged Ferrari’s influence and the appeal of its brand, he stated he remains focused on other opportunities and has no immediate plans to pursue the role, despite its prestige.
