“I feel at peace”: Jeet Raval announces retirement from professional cricket after 17-year career

October 9, 2026

Former New Zealand Test opener Jeet Raval has stepped away from professional cricket after a 17-year career, marking the end of an era for the 38-year-old batsman. Raval, who moved from Gujarat to Auckland as a teenager, made his first-class debut for Auckland in 2008 and went on to represent Auckland, Central Districts, and Northern Districts.

His domestic career was prolific, amassing over 10,000 first-class runs, including 23 centuries, and he led Northern Districts to their first Plunket Shield title in the 2024-25 season. Internationally, Raval played 24 Tests for New Zealand between 2016 and 2020, scoring one century and seven half-centuries, and was part of the Black Caps’ 2021 World Test Championship-winning squad.

Beyond his batting, he contributed 14 wickets with his part-time leg-spin, showcasing his all-round abilities. Reflecting on his journey, Raval expressed pride in fulfilling his childhood dream of representing New Zealand, crediting his father for the family’s move to Auckland that paved the way for his cricketing aspirations.

His final competitive match came in March 2026, closing a chapter on a career defined by consistency, leadership, and dedication to the game.
