Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has raised questions about Rishabh Pant’s inconsistent limited-overs performances, calling his stats in ODIs, T20Is, and the IPL a puzzle. Despite Pant’s Test cricket impact—where he’s scored 3,725 runs at an average of 43.82 and taken 166 catches—his white-ball numbers have fallen short of expectations.
In 31 ODIs, Pant has 871 runs (average 33.50, strike rate 106.21) and just one century, while his 76 T20Is yield 1,209 runs (average 23.25, strike rate 127.26). Patel, who praised Pant’s Test contributions as vital as Bumrah or Kohli, also defended his wicketkeeping, noting underrated consistency behind the stumps despite fewer technical flourishes than peers like Saha.
Meanwhile, Pant’s recent form includes captaining Rest of India to the Irani Cup title, leading Delhi in their Ranji Trophy opener (October 11 at Kalyani), and earning a spot in India A’s New Zealand tour squad. Patel suggested Pant’s ODI struggles stem from a lack of balance between aggression and strike rotation, arguing boundaries alone aren’t enough in the 50-over format.
