Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning faced intense scrutiny after a 27-24 loss to unranked Oklahoma in Dallas, where his inconsistent play under pressure became a focal point of the defeat. Manning, the national champion quarterback, led Texas to a 17-7 halftime lead but faltered in the fourth quarter, throwing two interceptions that Oklahoma converted into 10 points.
The Longhorns struggled on third downs, converting just 3 of 14 attempts, and went scoreless in the third quarter, punting on all three possessions. Manning’s first turnover came on a high throw intended for Cam Coleman, which Peyton Bowen returned for a touchdown.
His second interception, a blitz pick by Courtland Guillory, sealed Oklahoma’s victory. Manning finished the game with 260 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions, while also scrambling out of the pocket to make key plays.
Despite the loss, Manning defended his performance, acknowledging that Texas’ offensive struggles stemmed from his own execution rather than coaching decisions. Former national champion quarterback Danny Kanell suggested Manning’s tendency to deviate from the playbook may have contributed to the issues, though head coach Steve Sarkisian praised Manning’s competitiveness and emphasized the need for improved offensive balance through the run game.
