Texas Tech's 2027 Recruiting Class Is Building Something Special

Texas Tech football is constructing a recruiting blueprint for sustained success under head coach Joey McGuire, with their 2027 class featuring standout talent across both offense and defense. Defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, ranked as the nation’s top prospect by Rivals, is the centerpiece after transferring from Cedar Hill to Georgia’s Buford High for his senior year—a move that could allow him to join the Red Raiders early.

On the edge, Anthony Sweeney continues to develop at Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy, one of the country’s top high school programs, while versatile athlete Gideon Gash has redefined his stock with a breakout senior season.

The 6-4, 205-pound Gash has already set a Michigan high school record for punt-return touchdowns while accumulating 816 all-purpose yards and 12 scores through six games, drawing comparisons to five-star prospects despite his current four-star rating. His decision to commit to Texas Tech over Alabama, Michigan State, and Oklahoma has only solidified his status as a program-changing talent, with scouts taking notice of his dual-threat abilities as both a receiver and return specialist.

The offensive side of the class is equally promising, led by quarterback Kavian Bryant, who delivered a historic seven-touchdown performance earlier this season—including 385 passing yards, five touchdowns, and 111 rushing yards in a single game. His standout effort earned him Class 3A Built Ford Tough Player of the Week honors, while DeSoto running back SaRod Baker has emerged as another dynamic prospect.

Baker has rushed for 639 yards on 6.7 yards per carry and even stepped in as a quarterback when needed, showcasing his adaptability. With the December signing period approaching, McGuire’s staff faces the challenge of locking down this elite group while continuing to attract additional top-tier talent.

The foundation is already in place, but the Red Raiders’ ability to retain these commitments will determine just how quickly they can elevate their program to national contention.
