Falcons shred Packers in Michael Penix Jr.'s return; MLB and WNBA playoffs take shape

Michael Penix Jr. made his long-awaited return to the field after a ten-month absence, sparking the Atlanta offense to a dominant 35-14 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

The quarterback change immediately revitalized the squad, allowing playmakers Bijan Robinson and Drake London to accumulate 194 yards each. Meanwhile, Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur faces mounting questions following a disappointing 1-2 start to the season.

Across baseball, four additional organizations locked down playoff positions on Thursday, highlighted by the San Diego Padres defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 to claim their spot. That outcome guaranteed the Milwaukee Brewers the top seed in the National League along with home-field advantage.

The Cleveland Guardians and both Chicago franchises also secured postseason berths, with Pete Crow-Armstrong achieving a notable 40-40 milestone for the Cubs. In women's basketball, the Valkyries secured the second playoff seed via a dramatic 16-point comeback victory over the Sparks, setting up a first-round series against the Wings.
