During a Week 4 matchup, Texas defender Colin Simmons tied a single-game school record with five sacks against Tennessee. Despite a stellar performance that included eight tackles and a forced fumble, Simmons drew widespread criticism for an unsportsmanlike celebration late in the second quarter.
After bringing down quarterback Faizon Brandon, Simmons pantomimed urinating on the turf, resulting in a 15-yard penalty that erased a sack and gave the Volunteers a fresh set of downs. ESPN broadcaster Rece Davis later lambasted the play on his podcast as exceptionally foolish and lacking in awareness.
Although head coach Steve Sarkisian briefly benched his star edge rusher following the incident, Simmons returned to dominate the second half and later issued a public apology.
