The defensive unit dominated the contest by forcing seven turnovers, including five fumbles and two interceptions, while limiting the Ducks to just one successful third-down conversion out of twelve attempts.
Nico Iamaleava suffered a leg injury late in the first half and did not return, allowing senior backup Ty Dieffenbach to lead the offense for the remainder of the game. Dieffenbach connected with Wayne Knight for a nine-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, capping a performance where Knight rushed for 103 yards on 22 carries.
Although Oregon's third-string quarterback Brock Thomas threw a late 44-yard score to Evan Stewart, the Ducks failed on a two-point conversion, allowing UCLA to hold on for the upset.
