The Minnesota Vikings remained unbeaten on Sunday, improving to 5-0 with a 23-13 victory over the New Orleans Saints at the Caesars Superdome. Despite gifting points away with costly turnovers deep in scoring position, Minnesota controlled the flow of the afternoon, holding New Orleans to minimal yardage and dropping the hosts to 1-4 with their third consecutive home defeat.
Returning from previous injury setbacks, quarterback Kyler Murray gave Minnesota steady control through the air and on the ground. Murray completed 24 of 30 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown while adding 51 yards across 10 rushing attempts.
That efficiency was matched by running back Aaron Jones, who carried 25 times for 113 yards and sealed Minnesota's push with a fourth-quarter touchdown run. Justin Jefferson, who entered the afternoon questionable with an injury, brought in six receptions for 79 yards.
Jefferson also provided Minnesota's first offensive touchdown of the contest via a 15-yard reception in the end zone to secure a 13-7 lead, his first scoring grab since the fourth quarter of Week 1.
The contest remained competitive solely because of mistakes by Minnesota inside the red zone. Aaron Jones lost a fumble in the first half, and a third-quarter fumble by Myles Price turned directly into points for New Orleans.
Jonas Sanker collected the loose ball and returned it 87 yards for a defensive score, one of three fumbles forced by the Saints' defense on the day. However, the Saints subsequently missed an extra point that would have tied the score at 23-23, and Will Reichard pushed the final margin to two possessions with a 55-yard field goal in the final quarter.
Outside of Sanker's return, the New Orleans offense could find no traction. Quarterback Tyler Shough went 16-of-25 for 96 yards and threw two interceptions, as the Saints converted only 2 of 10 third downs.
Minnesota's defense surrendered just 142 total yards and nine first downs, limiting the hosts to 3.3 yards per play. New Orleans was unable to capitalize on any momentum from its defensive takeaways, failing to record double-digit first downs over the entire game.
Minnesota enters Week 6 with a bye, preserving an unblemished 5-0 record despite early-season injury management across their roster. New Orleans must regroup quickly before heading on the road to face the New York Giants next week.
