Why is AFG vs BAN Test not a part of WTC 2025-27 cycle?

The ongoing Test match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi holds no weight in the World Test Championship 2025-27 standings. Because Afghanistan is not among the nine nations included in the closed-league championship structure, any fixture involving them is classified as a stand-alone contest.

This encounter marks the third meeting between the two sides, with each team having secured one victory in their previous two matchups. While Bangladesh remains an active participant in the championship cycle, this specific game does not contribute to their points tally.

The ICC currently lacks a promotion or relegation system, meaning newer Test nations like Afghanistan remain outside the competitive framework of the championship. Rahmat Shah is leading the Afghan side, while Najmul Hossain Shanto captains the Bangladesh team for this series.
