The New England Patriots have released outside linebacker Jose Ramirez, a 27-year-old who was elevated from the practice squad in early September following the injury to Quintayvious Hutchins. Ramirez, who appeared in two games for a total of 30 snaps, recorded one tackle on special teams and spent the majority of his active roster time on coverage units rather than on defense.
His departure adds to the ongoing instability at the edge position, leaving Dre’Mont Jones, Elijah Ponder, and Gabe Jacas as the primary active roster options, with Xavier Holmes and Benton Whitley remaining on the practice squad.
The move creates two vacancies on the 53-man roster, providing flexibility as several players become eligible for activation from injury lists. Harold Landry, Brenden Schooler, Marcus Bryant, Khalil Jacobs, and Bryce Baringer are all currently cleared to return, though the team may prioritize Landry, Bryant, and Jacobs for the open spots.
If punter Bryce Baringer is activated, it would likely result in the departure of stand-in Mitch Wishnowsky, while the return of Landry from the physically unable to perform list remains a key factor in the team's immediate roster decisions.
