The Giants' Week 5 clash with the Commanders ended in a chaotic finish, with both teams leaving the field feeling they had missed opportunities. On offense, only Isaiah Likely stood out among Giants receivers, earning an excellent grade from Pro Football Focus, while Malik Nabers also performed above average.
The offensive line, however, showed its strengths primarily in pass protection, with Jon Runyan, Jermaine Eluemunor, and Andrew Thomas leading the way—though Eluemunor’s calf injury will require further evaluation. The run game struggled, as all three backs graded below average, and the line’s run-blocking efforts were inconsistent, with Sisi Mauigoa surrendering three hurries.
Quarterback Jameis Winston’s stats—326 passing yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions—masked a lackluster performance, as he completed just 33 of 54 attempts for a 6.1 yards-per-attempt average, along with two turnover-worthy plays and a fumble. Meanwhile, Washington’s defense capitalized on Winston’s struggles, blitzing him on roughly half his dropbacks, though he managed two of his three touchdowns under pressure.
Defensively, the Giants showed promise, with Abdul Carter emerging as a standout, recording six pressures. The unit’s improved play was a bright spot in an otherwise uneven outing, as the Giants’ second-half momentum failed to translate into a victory.
Winston’s ability to thrive under heavy blitzes—including two touchdown drives—highlighted his resilience, though his underlying numbers and turnover risks remained concerns. The Giants’ offensive line and receivers will need to build on their strengths while addressing their vulnerabilities to avoid similar struggles in future matchups.
