The change Butch Harmon thinks would be better than the golf ball rollback, ‘that’s not going to happen’

Renowned instructor Butch Harmon is pushing back against the proposed golf ball rollback, arguing that governing bodies should instead focus on regulating driver technology. He believes modern equipment has fundamentally altered the sport, allowing players to swing with extreme force that would have been impossible with traditional persimmon clubs and balata balls.

Harmon highlighted how current gear enables high-launch, low-spin shots that have changed the way professionals approach the game. He noted that while he previously helped players like Stewart Cink adjust their loft to maximize modern equipment, he now advocates for making drivers significantly more challenging to use to preserve the integrity of classic courses.
