The Pittsburgh Steelers have added another veteran cornerback to their roster, signing Terell Smith off the Washington Commanders’ practice squad. Smith, a fifth-round pick by the Chicago Bears in 2023, brings experience from two seasons with the franchise, where he played in 26 games and recorded one interception along with 10 passes defensed.
His tenure with the Bears ended abruptly in August 2025 when he was placed on injured reserve, missing the entire season before landing on Washington’s practice squad earlier this year. The move addresses the Steelers’ cornerback depth concerns following the trade of Joey Porter Jr.
and an ankle injury to Jamel Dean, with Smith set to join the 53-man roster immediately alongside fellow newcomer Sean Murphy-Bunting.
