South Africa staged a dramatic turnaround in the second Test against Australia, thanks to a career-best 179 from captain Temba Bavuma, who anchored a record-breaking partnership to steer his team from a shaky 110-6 to a commanding position. The Proteas declared at 425 for nine wickets, setting Australia a challenging target after a day that saw Bavuma break multiple records, including a seventh-wicket stand of 132 with Marco Jansen and an eighth-wicket partnership of 183 with Simon Harmer.
Jansen contributed 85 runs, while Harmer reached his first Test century with an 82-ball knock, as South Africa clawed back from early setbacks caused by rain and a slow start. Australia, meanwhile, lost Travis Head and Scott Boland early in their reply, with Boland also claiming his third five-wicket haul in Tests, this time outside Australia, as the match shifted back into South Africa’s favor by stumps.
