SMU claimed a 34-24 home victory over Missouri State despite falling into an early ten-point deficit and committing early miscues. Quarterback Kevin Jennings powered the comeback by throwing for 464 yards and scoring four total touchdowns, breaking multiple program records previously held by Tanner Mordecai and Ben Hicks.

Jennings established a new school mark for career passing yardage and total touchdowns, while also completing 21 consecutive passes during the contest. Head coach Rhett Lashlee praised the standout performance, while opposing coach Casey Woods acknowledged the quarterback's Heisman credentials.
