The Denver Broncos are making a significant shift in their offensive approach ahead of their upcoming matchup, with head coach Sean Payton taking a more direct role in play-calling. According to reports, Payton will now have a larger say in game-day decisions, marking a departure from the previous arrangement where offensive coordinator Davis Webb led the process.
The change comes amid struggles on offense, where quarterback Jarrett Stidham has shown inconsistency, the run game remains stagnant, and key receivers like Courtland Sutton and Jaylen Waddle have failed to replicate their earlier-season production. Sutton, once a 1,000-yard threat, has managed just nine catches for 86 yards and no touchdowns in four games, while Waddle has been largely sidelined outside of a single outing against the Jaguars.
Despite the shift, the collaboration between Payton and Webb will continue, ensuring the offensive coordinator remains a key voice in the decision-making process. Payton emphasized the importance of refining play details rather than rushing evaluations, noting that the team’s current performance does not yet reflect championship-level football.
