The Seattle Seahawks have activated a key special teams contributor, designating wide receiver Irv Charles to return to practice. Charles, acquired from the New York Jets in late May, missed the entire preseason after suffering an undisclosed injury during training camp and was placed on injured reserve before the regular season began.
His return gives the Seahawks a 21-day window to add him to the active roster, with the earliest possible return date being Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs, though a quicker activation could occur if they choose to act sooner. Charles, 29, has been a reliable special teams performer, recording 14 tackles and a blocked punt during his two seasons with the Jets, though he missed all of last year after tearing his ACL in December 2024.
The Seahawks currently rank near the bottom of the league in yards per kickoff return allowed, and Charles’ return could bolster their defensive efforts in that area.
