Australia secured a commanding 214-run victory over South Africa in the opening Test at Kingsmead. Josh Hazlewood spearheaded the bowling attack with a six-wicket haul in the second innings, finishing with match figures of eight for 103 as the hosts were dismissed for 206 while chasing a target of 421.
Aiden Markram provided the primary resistance for the home side, batting for nearly six hours to reach 75 before falling to Mitchell Starc. Matt Renshaw, who anchored the Australian effort with scores of 190 and 82, also contributed with the ball by claiming the wicket of Kyle Verreynne.
Steve Smith set a new world record for Test catches by a fielder during the match, while late contributions from Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder were ultimately insufficient to prevent the Australian win.
