Rice rescues Arsenal in Munich as Kane's penalty briefly turns the game

Bayern Munich and Arsenal drew 2-2 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night in the Champions League league phase, a game in which Arsenal went ahead, fell behind and then earned a point through Declan Rice.

Arsenal's evening started badly: Bukayo Saka went off injured after ten minutes, and Eberechi Eze, who replaced him, scored the opener in the 25th minute from a Martin Odegaard pass after VAR ruled him onside. Alphonso Davies equalised ten minutes later from a through-ball by Harry Kane.

The turning point came in the 61st minute. Kane's shot hit Jurrien Timber's arm, and the penalty that followed was converted by Kane himself. It was his 16th goal in 22 appearances against Arsenal, and made him only the second player after Cristiano Ronaldo to score in ten consecutive Champions League games.

Arsenal did not drop away. In the 82nd minute, after a move involving Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres, Rice ran into the box and finished from an acute angle past Manuel Neuer.

Timber nearly won it in the 89th minute with a shot from distance that Neuer saved. The reports say Arsenal had more shots and possession than Bayern.

Bayern were without the suspended Michael Olise, and Joshua Kimmich missed the match after a death in his family. Arsenal's bigger worry is Saka, whose injury Mikel Arteta said "doesn't look good at all," while adding that the club must wait and see.

Arsenal are at home to Everton on Saturday and play Liverpool at Anfield on 1 November.
