Rams' special teams woes leave Sean McVay 'sick' after frustrating overtime loss to Bills

October 13, 2026

The Buffalo Bills earned a 37-34 overtime victory against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night at SoFi Stadium. Following the loss, Rams head coach Sean McVay expressed severe disappointment regarding his decision-making late in the contest.

The outcome brought Buffalo to a 4-1 record on the season, while Los Angeles fell to 2-3.

The game concluded after Rams kicker Harrison Mevis saw his 48-yard field goal attempt blocked in overtime. Mevis had previously missed a 50-yard field goal earlier in the contest.

Following the blocked kick, Sean McVay reflected on the sequence, stating, "I'm sick right now with myself." The head coach added, "I wish I would've had a better play call and gone for it, gotten it a lot tighter." Discussing the late-game strategy, McVay noted, "I'll be regretting kicking that and not having a better call to be able to go for it on third down and go to fourth or whatever it was, and that's on me." Addresssing the overall performance of the unit, McVay stated, "It's got to get better, We're gonna be able to figure out how."

Quarterback Josh Allen led the Buffalo offense with a game-high 121 rushing yards and a touchdown, while also compiling 210 passing yards. The result marked Allen's first career overtime victory, having previously posted an 0-7 record in overtime contests across the regular season and postseason.

Additional scoring for Buffalo included a 17-yard touchdown run from James Cook, alongside field goals of 49 and 23 yards from Tyler Bass.

For the Los Angeles Rams, Puka Nacua recorded a career-high 17 receptions on 21 targets, finishing with 138 yards and a touchdown. Davante Adams also scored for Los Angeles by catching a 4-yard touchdown pass from Stafford.

Following the final whistle, Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Alaric Jackson punched Buffalo Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb in the jaw. Reacting to the postgame incident, Bradley Chubb stated, "It’s just emotions, you know what I mean?

Emotional game, it was a close game."
