The Green Bay Packers' defense took a major blow Sunday as head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed early concerns about defensive lineman Javon Hargrave, who suffered a likely season-ending Achilles injury late in the team's victory over the Chicago Bears. Hargrave's injury marks the fourth significant season-ending loss for Green Bay, following receiver Jayden Reed (neck), right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele (patellar tendon), and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (Achilles).
With Hargrave's potential exit, the Packers will lean heavily on a defensive line unit already dealing with uncertainty, as Anthony Campbell remains questionable after missing Week 5 and entering Sunday with an unspecified injury. The team's starting defensive ends, Karl Brooks and Devonte Wyatt, along with nose tackle Jonathan Ford and rookie Chris McClellan, remain healthy, but depth concerns persist with only five defensive linemen on the roster beyond Hargrave.
The Packers may need to activate practice squad defensive tackle David Blay Jr. if Campbell cannot play, though the team has already lost two practice squad players to other franchises this season.
Warren Brinson and Jordon Riley, currently on injured reserve and the physically unable to perform list respectively, are expected to return and bolster the unit in the coming weeks.
