Oregon State football is taking proactive steps ahead of its Saturday matchup against San Diego State, as the Aztecs continue to battle a mumps outbreak that has already affected over a dozen players. The Beavers, who have won three straight games after early-season losses to Houston and Texas Tech, are offering players booster shots of the MMR vaccine to mitigate risk.
Coach JaMarcus Shephard confirmed the precaution during a Monday press conference, emphasizing that player safety remains the top priority, much like the measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic. Oregon State, currently a darkhorse contender for the Pac-12 title, has an explosive offense averaging over 7 yards per play and nearly 500 yards per game, including a 56-point outburst in their Week 5 win over Colorado State.
Meanwhile, San Diego State, which won its Pac-12 opener in Week 5 despite playing shorthanded due to the outbreak, sits at 2-3 on the season.
