The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs suffered their second straight loss after falling to unranked Auburn 27-24 in a heartbreaking late collapse.
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton, who had thrown for 249 yards and a touchdown in last week’s win over Alabama, struggled with three turnovers, including a costly fumble with 58 seconds left that set up Auburn’s game-winning field goal. The Bulldogs’ defense forced a late turnover but failed to capitalize, while Auburn’s Alex McPherson’s 34-yard field goal—shortened by a roughing-the-passer penalty—sealed the upset.
The loss marks the first time since 1990 that the top-ranked team in the AP poll has lost to an unranked opponent in consecutive weeks, following Georgia’s earlier upset of Alabama.
Auburn’s victory snaps a five-game losing streak dating back to 2020 and ends a 9-year drought in the annual rivalry. The Tigers, led by quarterback Byrum Brown, scored 24 unanswered points to take a commanding lead, while Georgia’s offense managed just two touchdowns after starting strong.
With back-to-back conference losses now on their record, Georgia’s perfect start is in jeopardy, while Auburn’s momentum could carry into their next two games against LSU and Ole Miss. The Bulldogs’ early-season dominance has been overshadowed by costly mistakes, leaving the SEC wide open with multiple teams now holding at least one conference loss.
