NFL Network analyst Michael Robinson has raised questions about the timing of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts’ recent injury, suggesting the team may be using the situation to explore alternatives at the position. Hurts, who has been a three-time Pro Bowl performer over seven seasons with the Eagles, has struggled early in the season under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.
With his contract set to expire after the 2028 campaign, Robinson speculated that Philadelphia could be positioning itself to move on from Hurts, especially given the team’s recent haul of draft picks in the 2027-28 range. Hurts was sidelined this week due to a superficial blood clot in his calf, an injury sustained during the Eagles’ 24-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on October 4.
The team has yet to provide a return timeline, though medical experts suggest the condition could keep him out for at least 45 days depending on treatment progress. In his absence, the Eagles are expected to start backup Tanner McKee, with rookie Cole Payton likely filling the No.
2 role. The team also reportedly signed free agent Joe Milton, adding another layer of uncertainty to the quarterback situation.
