Moore's Germany move inspired by Sancho and Bellingham

Tottenham Hotspur loanee Mikey Moore has cited the Bundesliga success of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham as key inspiration behind his decision to join FC Köln on a season-long loan. The 19-year-old forward, who turned professional at Spurs, became the latest English talent to pursue his career in Germany’s top flight, following in the footsteps of Sancho and Bellingham, who both thrived in the league before moving to Manchester United and Real Madrid, respectively.

Sancho, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City at 17, became a standout winger with over 150 appearances and a DFB-Pokal title in 2021 before his £73 million transfer to United. Bellingham, meanwhile, left Birmingham City for Dortmund in 2020 and quickly established himself as one of the world’s most promising midfielders before his £88.5 million move to Real Madrid last year.

Moore, who made 47 appearances across all competitions during a loan spell at Rangers last season—including Champions League qualifying rounds—has embraced the challenge of playing in Germany’s elite. He highlighted the league’s reputation for developing young talent, noting the trust placed in him by Köln’s coaching staff and the rapid game-time opportunities he’s received.

The move follows a pattern of English players seeking high-level competition abroad, with Moore himself admitting he prioritized growth over comfort, having already proven his adaptability in Scotland’s Premiership with six goals and two assists in 28 league games.
